Skiing In Saskatchewan PDF Print E-mail

The numerous hills and valleys of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan make it a natural ski destination. There are plenty of ski resorts and areas in this vast province, ranging from large, world class resorts to smaller - yet equally accommodating - operations. While the westernmost province of British Columbia receives a lot of the attention in Canada in terms of skiing, it is important to know that Saskatchewan really gives it a run for its money. If you are an avid skier but have never hit the slopes in Saskatchewan, you should definitely consider planning your next holiday here.

The Ski Resorts Of Saskatchewan

No matter what part of Saskatchewan you plan on visiting, there is sure to be a nearby ski resort or ski area that can suit your needs. Since the winter season is quite long, there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to plan a really memorable trip. Even though there are no large mountains in Saskatchewan - the Canadian Rockies are located in more western areas of the country - the gentle, rolling hills of the region serve up some surprisingly excellent skiing conditions. If you think only the steepest, highest peaks offer challenging skiing, think again - the ski areas in Saskatchewan prove otherwise.

Near Saskatoon, the Blackstrap Winter Sports Park is a great example of skiing in Saskatchewan. Since so many people choose to spend holidays in Saskatoon - with its charming downtown and many local attractions - it makes sense that Blackstrap should be a popular destination in its own right. The man-made mountain here was created with skiing and other winter sports in mind, making it a great place for beginners and more advanced skiers alike. There is night skiing offered every Friday night during the long season, which runs from late November until the end of March.

About ten miles west of Battleford is Table Mountain Regional Park, which features an excellent, 3,600 foot-long run and many other great skiing amenities. A large chalet on the premises offers a cafeteria and other services; many local lodges and other accommodations make planning a trip around the area quite easy to do. Families will especially find themselves enthralled with all that Table Mountain has to offer, and are sure to return again and again for future holidays.
